You can find our archive of previous featured ingredients here.

You’ve read that right, after a 2 year hiatus, we’re back with a new featured ingredient. I’m really excited about some of the posts that we have planned for this season, and I can’t believe that we hadn’t highlighted cinnamon in all of its spicy glory sooner.

This is going to be a great season. Cinnamon is a spice that’s used throughout the world in both savory and sweet dishes, and we’re looking forward to exploring all of that variety. Of course, we’ll be sure to step out of the kitchen to use cinnamon in a number of different craft and beauty applications.

Good Stuff : Golden Milk

The beginning of the year is always a great time to re-evaluate habits and work on our seasonal routines. This post was originally published in 2019, and two years later, golden milk is still one of our favorite winter drinks. We hope you’ll give it a try!

Have you tried golden milk yet? You may have also heard it referred to as turmeric tea. What about making your own?

We admit, this is one of those foods that seems to be trendy for the moment. BUT, after reading yet another article about it last January, we had to give it a try last year. That one cup 12 months ago turned into a peaceful and healthy ritual that’s lasted a full year. Today we wanted to share this drink with you.

About Turmeric

Turmeric is a plant in the ginger family. As a spice, the roots of the plant are used either fresh or dried and powdered. It is believed that the curcumin compound within turmeric can decrease inflammation within the body as well as providing other health benefits. As mentioned in this article, the spice has proven “anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial”, but as also stated by the NIH, it is difficult to find rigorous studies supporting many of the health claims associated with turmeric. Cooking with Kids : Ginger Cookies

Cooking with Kids is an ongoing series where we share recipes that are easy enough to make with a two-year-old. If you’re new to the series, our first post that provides our detailed tips for cooking with little ones.

*We first published this post almost two years ago, but these cookies are delicious and ginger is our ingredient of the season, so we’re republishing them today so that you don’t let a good thing pass you by.*

Ahhh, I meant to share this post before Christmas so that you could add yet another cookie to your baking list, but time got away from me, so here we are with a delicious ginger cookie that tastes just as good on a cold day in January as it would during the hustle and bustle of Christmas.

And I’m still smiling about how this came to be my favorite ginger cookie recipe. Calder’s sister made them a few years ago at Thanksgiving. That first batch was delicious and reminded me of the ginger chews that I used to buy in Trader Joe’s. I was so smitten that I asked for the recipe. She sent it along, and from her notes, I could see that it came from the grandma of a good friend. As I was baking these with Alex, I looked more closely at the bottle (more on that below) and realized that the recipe on the Grandma’s Molasses bottle matched the recipe I was making! Ingredient for ingredient and word for word. So, maybe you already know this recipe?
