Exploring Coastal Rocks and Tidal Pools in Tofino, BC

If you’re interested in things to do in Tofino, here’s a neat hike with the final destination being an old bomber plane. If you want to explore another tidal pool, I highly recommend a visit to Cannon Beach, Oregon.

Last weekend, I camped at Green Point Campground near Tofino, BC. Beyond surfing, skim boarding, biking, and hiking, there are plenty of beaches to comb and coastal tide pools to explore. I really enjoyed climbing around on the rocks between North Chesterman and South Chesterman beach. This area is also known as Frank Island, but you are able to access it by land, no need to cross water to reach it. Continue reading

Hiking the Bomber Trail near Tofino, BC

We write about hiking a lot. Hiking in all seasons, hiking in many different states, day hiking and weekend backpacking, hiking with kids, hiking and photography, etc, here are all our hiking posts.

live seasoned bomber trail hike-7

This past weekend, I went on a rad little hike. This time it wasn’t the scenery that made it extra special, it was the destination, an old bomber plane crash site. The plane was a Royal Canadian Air Force Canso 11007 that crashed shortly after takeoff on February 12, 1945. Apparently the engine malfunctioned causing the plane to crash into the trees just south of Radar hill, about a dozen kilometers south of Tofino, BC. There were 12 people onboard, they all survived the crash and were rescued 11 hours after going down. I’m betting most people will read this article for the pertinent information since the trail is ‘unofficial’ so I’m going to get right to it. Continue reading

Two Bits

Sarah here :

Happy Friday! It’s the freakin’ weekend baby I’m about to have me some fun. How is it possible that a hit song from 2003 runs through my head every single Friday? Do you have a Friday song? Maybe share it with me. I need a new one. Believe me I *never* actually play R. Kelly’s Ignition, but you better believe it’s on repeat in my rumination brain every weekend. Eeek!

I digress. What is all this fun I’m about to have? I’m headed to Vancouver today! It’s my first time ever and I’m still in disbelief that it’s going to happen. My bf presented the idea a month ago and at the time I was so stressed at the thought of it, a vacation during a vacation?! How could I afford that? Then I realized the true question was how could I justify that? Isn’t that what we spend so much of our precious time and energy doing? Justifying.

We justify our spending whether it’s time, attention, or money. We justify our words and our actions. We justify our decisions. What if we all just strived to come from a place of truth that felt right and good and just to us? Then could we chill out with all the justifying? I’m trying it on for size. After the intitial, ‘OMG, I can’t afford that and I don’t deserve that!’ conversation, I called back and we planned the trip. We’ll be camping and hiking and surfing our holiday weekend away and it’s going to be swell.

Have a good one friends!

live seasoned you are a badass-1

All hail 2018, the year of the book. You will hear me say this about every possible temperature, weather pattern, and month, but spring is the best time to pull out a book! If it’s going to be raining for a week straight, don’t get caught staring out the window, lose yourself in a book. That’s our attitude at least. I’ve finished a few this past month and I keep wanting to reach for old favorites rather than something new. I might have to read Buddha’s Brain for the fourth time. It’s nice to fall into something comfortable and familiar every once in a while.

Our Read With Me Series is going strong this year, here are all the past installments. Today I’m sharing my thoughts on hugely successful Jen Sincero and her book You are a Badass. Initially, I had some doubts about this book. I felt it was pushy and a little bit bossy or sharp in a way, but after two chapters I became accustomed to the tone and really respected her insight. I think it just took some getting used to at first. I received this book as a gift, so I didn’t really want a kick in the ass at first, but once I found myself shaking my head yes over and over again, I listened hard and took lots of notes.
