Good Stuff : Clean Beauty

Today’s post aims to continue our good habits series that we started in January. And if you like mixing up potions, check out our favorite green cleaning resource.

In this month’s welcome post, Sarah mentioned that we’re focusing on taking care of ourselves this month. For us, one of the best ways that we can keep our spirits high is to make sure we’re checking all of the boxes > eating nutritious foods, exercising, stimulating our brains, strengthening our friendships, and pampering ourselves with a bit of DIY skin-care.

Granted, it’s in our nature to DIY. These recipes may seem like too much work for some readers, and I get it, picking up a new beauty product at the store provides a bit of instant gratification. BUT just like we care about what we eat, we like to pay attention to what we’re putting on our skin. And during the cold, dry winters, our skin could really use a bit of extra care.

One of my absolute favorite DIY beauty books is Herbs for Natural Beauty. It’s written by Rosemary Gladstar, a well-known herbalist that is revered within her community. There are other, more detailed books about DIY beauty, but this is great introduction to the practice. The book includes descriptions of the most common ingredients and provides formulas for making a variety of cleansers, serums, creams, and scrubs for both your skin and hair.

In the photo above, I’m wearing a super simple (and tasty) pumpkin face mask. Below, we link to a variety of DIY beauty potions that we’ve shared over the years.

{rosemary scrubs}

{summer face oil | winter face oil}

{mint deodorant}

{lotion bars}

{floral lip balm}

{dry shampoo}

If you’re not sure where to start, we suggest body scrubs, they are SUPER SIMPLE to mix up, and are perfecting for exfoliating that dry winter skin. If you pick up a few essential oils, and the basic ingredients, you could invite friends over for a DIY party + movie. Just made your Vday plans for ya. <3
