4 Ways To Make Your Friends’ Day

If you joined us in Welcoming February yesterday, then you know we’re focusing on appreciating ourselves this month. One way to accomplish that is to extend yourself to your loved ones, to share the love, brighten someone’s day, and in turn feel brighter yourself.

A couple of years ago, I started a group chat called ‘Girl Talk’ where five friends and I basically bitch and moan to each other each week. We find ourselves coming to the chat to air our grievances against our co-workers, partners, and life in general. It’s a nice safe space where we can complain without consequence. Most of the stuff that we share is not a huge deal and it definitely is not worth complaining to our significant others about or confronting that shitty boss; sharing it in Girl Talk is enough of a resolution.

Since the start of this chat group, I realized that we are all dealing with a little bit of bullsh!t on a weekly basis. We all need care, love, nurturing, and support to make our way through it. What do you do when you need to cheer up your friends, but you are far away? Below are a few suggestions:

Schedule a Facetime coffee date

Obviously if you’re in the same city, get together IRL, but otherwise, prop your phone up on the table or on your kitchen counter and enjoy your coffee or tea (or wine) together. Adding the drink takes the pressure off a bit because it gives you both permission to relax into the conversation. It’s okay if there is a lull or a few moments of silence, you’re enjoying your beverage and you’re catchin’ up.

Have Food Delivered

Is your friend having a terrible day? Are they super busy or burdened with a new life change like a baby? Moving? First, make sure they are home and then have food delivered to their house. You can do this easily with UBEReats, GrubHub, any food delivery app or by calling the restaurant directly. Just let your friend know he or she should answer their door in a few moments or better yet, be on the phone with him or her when the doorbell rings so you can tell them what’s up. Make sure you tip your delivery drivers 😉

Send some snail mail

How often do we open the mailbox to a surprise? Here are some tips on creating the perfect little care package, but even a simple card or handwritten note will do. Sometimes I send a few sticks of incense or a couple teabags, in this case, it truly is the thought that counts.

Hang Up A Cheerful Poster

Print one of these bad boys out. I created this poster as a little pick-me-up. It was originally inspired by a .jpeg (shown below) I had saved offline about ten years ago! Way before Pinterest, when you would save pics and keep them in folders on your desktop. Do you have a folder like this? This idea stuck in my head for so long and finally, I put it to use by creating my own version and sending it out to all the ladies who are coming on my Hot Springs, NC retreat in July. Would you like to come? We have a few spots remaining!
