Make with Me : Edward’s Menagerie II

In a previous post, I shared the stuffed rhino, Whip Horn, that I made for Luc. Today I have a couple more cuties from the Edward’s Menagerie.

As with the rhino, the patterns for this lion and hedgehog came from the book Edward’s Menagerie. If you want to crochet stuffed animals, I highly recommend this book. The animals start with the same simple shapes, and then unique characteristics are added. I found the instructions to be well written with clear illustrated to help guide your work.

I made the rhino and this lion from bulky yarn. The hedgehog gets its small size from a thinner yarn and smaller needle. This options are discussed i the book. I do think that using a bulky yarn makes following the stitches easier, but once you have the hang of it, making smaller animals is just as easy.

And similarly to the pink rhino, we wanted to do something fun with the colors for the lion, thus the pink mane. Once completed, Luc used his small spool loom and some very fancy and beautiful Malabrigo Mecha in Piedras to make the lion’s scarf. We added a little cotton bandana to the hedgehog’s neck before sending these cuties off to Luc’s cousins.
