Easy Date & Nut Energy Balls

Looking for another nut and fruit snack? Try these nut & fruit bars!

My kids love store-bought date & nut energy balls. I’ve never bought any, BUT some of our play-date regulars often have plenty to share. 🙂

Since these treats have such a simple ingredient list, I thought it’d be fun to try making some at home. Turns out they are super easy to make and easily customizable. I hope you enjoy these energy-packed snacks as much as we do.

Date & Nut Energy Balls

As the name suggests, the foundation for this recipe is the dates and nuts. We add some Nutella for a touch of chocolate and some quick oats to help hold everything together.

  • about 6 dates
  • water
  • 1 cup walnuts
  • salt
  • 2 Tbsp nutella
  • 2 Tbsp quick oats
  • unsweetened coconut

Soak the pitted dates in hot water for about 10 minutes to soften.

Strain the dates, reserving the water, and place them in the food process with the nuts and a pinch of salt. Blend until nearly smooth. Add the nutella and oats and blend until incorporated.

Test the mixture’s consistency and adjust as necessary. For example, if it’s too sticky, you can add more oats. If it’s too dry, you could add more nutella or a splash of the reserved date water.

Once the ingredients are well blended, roll them into balls and roll in the coconut. Store the finished balls in the fridge to help them hold their shape and stay fresh.

Enjoy!
