Make with Me : Embroidery Kits (again!)

If you’re looking for a new project or hobby, we have a lot of great ideas in our Make with Me and DIY archives.

I made a trio of nautical embroidered designs from Hook Line & Tinker this past summer. They were great traveling projects that are small and easy enough to start and stop, and left me with an itch to do more!

Those first three projects were left in the new bunk room at the beach house, and I knew that I wanted to do another for our house. I picked this cute owl because the boys have just learned to read and it’s so cute to think about them digging into a good book and staying up way past their bedtime.

Just like the last time, I purchased the pre-printed fabric rather than the kit. But this time, I didn’t follow the recommended thread colors. The original pattern called for the same black stitches that I did, but all of the colored sections are improvised.

Here’s my thread formula:

  • DMC 924 (bluish grey) for the leaves across the top
  • DMC 680 (golden) for the beak and eyes
  • DMC 3726 (darker pink) for the outer feathers
  • DMC 407 (light pink) for the face feathers

I kept this one in its hoop for simple framing. And that’s that!
