Cocktail Recipe: Mexican (Hot) Chocolate

Cinnamon is our ingredient of the season. You can find more cinnamon posts here.

This cocktail was 100% inspired by Mexican hot chocolate. It has the cocoa, the spices, and some milk, but I wasn’t sure what to call it because it’s served over ice. Does it count has hot chocolate when it’s not hot?! Whatever we call it, this is delicious and perfect for when you’re gathered around the fireplace this season.

Narwhals Forever

If you’re looking for more gift ideas for the over 21 crowd, check out our hazelnut liqueur, coffee liqueur, and these cute little hat and scarf sets to dress up wine bottles.

Since these spirits magically change from a nice deep blue color to pink, they have unicorn written all over them. But I’m on a narwhal kick this year, remember these shakes?! So narwhal it is.

If you’re up for a bit of egg on your face in your drink, then I think you’ll love today’s drink. The combination of spicy ginger + tart cranberry + earthy rosemary creates a drink that encapsulates everything I feel as I watch the sun’s low rays move across our hill on a winter day.  Continue reading

Lilac Lemon Drop

Potatoes are our ingredient of the season. You can find our full archive of potato posts here.

There’s nothing I love more than the smell of lilacs in spring. Their fragrance is intoxicating.

Holy cow, I wish they would last longer in a vase. I’ve tried all sorts of tricks, but I have to admit that I think their fleeting season is partly to blame for my lilac love.

Today we’re pairing lilacs with lemons in this simple simply delicious cocktail. But I bet you’re wondering where potatoes come in? Vodka, my friend. Vodka.

Ginger Liqueur & Mule

Ginger is our ingredient of the season, you can find more ginger recipes here and more drink recipes here.

We’re popping in with a homemade ginger liqueur recipe and using it in a ginger mule cocktail. Just getting ready for the weekend.

This liqueur has a quick turn-around. No long steeping period like our hazelnut liqueur or limoncello (oh hey, old blog!). Instead, it’s much similar in wait to something like our rosemary vodka.

Malted Egg Milkshakes with Vanilla Vodka

Vanilla is our ingredient of the season. We’re looking forward to a few months of both sweet and savory dishes using vanilla. Plus, we’re a huge fan of milkshakes, so if you like today’s post, you may want to check out our matcha tea milkshake and hazelnut liqueur shake!

I made a bottle of vanilla vodka last week, as you’ll see below, it’s super easy to do, and it’s even better than the store-bought vanilla varieties because this is made with 100% real vanilla, nothing artificial here… and then we added candy-coated malted eggs.

Truth be told, vanilla vodka has never been on my radar, but since I’ve experimented with making the tea infused and rosemary infused vodkas, vanilla and vodka seemed like an obvious pairing. It wasn’t until after I made it that I wondered what to do with it. Calder said “throw it away”. Thanks. Then I did a Google search and came upon a comment board where multiple people recommended giving it away. What’s wrong with everyone?

Tea-Infused Vodka

Tea is our ingredient of the season this winter. Looking for another cocktail with tea? Check out our Garden Gin. And want to experiment with more infused vodkas? We love this hazelnut liqueur and this rosemary vodka.

Today we’re here to provide a warning : tea-infused vodka may be an acquired taste… and we haven’t quite acquired it yet, but we’re trying (I’m drinking some as I type!). On a scale of 1 to 10, we’re giving this one an “ehh”.

liveseasoned_winter2016_teavodka3

So, the idea is simple, take some vodka, add some tea, let it sit, then strain, and then make a cocktail. But for how simple it is, and for how much we love tea and vodka, somehow we aren’t loving the results. And this isn’t some crazy idea schemed up by us, Absolut sells a tea-flavored vodka!
