Five Best Coffeeshops in Fishtown, Philadelphia

Headed to Philly? Here’s a weekender’s guide to Fishtown.

My, my, my how Fishtown, Philadelphia has changed since I lived there six years ago. Back in my day there was only one coffeeshop all the cool kids went to. That one has been undergoing major renovations and it’s been completely closed for over a year now, so I had to find a new brew spot until it reopens. Not a problem. I can think of five favorite coffeeshops off the top of my caffienated dome and to be honest, I like all of them better than my original spot. Fishtown is poppin’ with coffee beans and chai. If you’re planning a visit or want to try a sip of something new, here are my five favorite coffeeshops in Fishtown, Philadelphia. Screen Shot 2018-02-27 at 9.49.43 PM

Steap & Grind – S&G steals my heart and the number one spot. The interior of the cafe is simplistic and lovely and there are a few outdoor seats as well. Oh how much studying procrastinating I would have done there if this opened when I lived across the damn street. The coffee is great. The teas are awesome. The food is AHMAZING and inexpensive and fresh and served in too big of portions. Steap & Grind gets all the points.

La Colombe – Trendy AF in here and a chain, but I can’t deny it’s awesome coffee. If you visit the website the main photo is of the Fishtown location; it’s light, open, airy, and beautiful. This is the coffeeshop that I’d probably take visitors to because the space alone is enough to impress anyone. It’s really well done. It’s also home to the draft latte and how many spaces offer that? No wifi ’cause they make the rules. Drink your coffee, eat your treats and GTFO.

ReAnimator Coffee Roasters – Hip, hip, hip, but they back it up. You’ll see plenty of fixed gears parked outside and all the doggos with their bearded and beanie wearing owners inside. These are the grungy, friendly, little hipsters of Fishtown and they’re great, just as great as the coffee. ReAnimator is a coffee roasting house first, coffeeshop second, meaning they know their shit and they’re willing to share all the info. They also create limited roasts with stellar themes like this (Nick) Foles-gers blend. All of the profits were donated to The Fund For The School District of Philadelphia BTW! Love you, ReAnimator.

One Shot – I loved walking a couple blocks to One Shot back in the day so you could imagine my surprise / fomo when I realized they relocated to the corner of the very street I lived on! Like, whhhhat? One Shot, you rock. One Shot is one of those spaces that you felt like you saw grow up and now you’re proud of the fine young man he’s become, ya know? I love One Shot because it’s damn fine espresso. They work with Stumptown beans {so tasty} and they serve up an ideal croissant sandwich. Baristas are trained in house and they’re customer service has always been impeccable. One Shot is perfect if you’re near the western/southern edge of Fishtown and technically I’d say it’s in Northern Liberties, but let’s not split hairs here.

Coffee House Too – Don’t let the generic (sorry CHT) looking sign deter you, Coffee House Too has awesome coffee, a large, delicious, inexpensive dine-in menu, and a bunch of treats to take on the go. I love Coffee House Too because it’s the best option on the northern edge of Fishtown, it’s always quick, and the staff there is suuuuper nice. It’s also relatively free of hipsters and young hotties, I don’t need cool ass people to make me feel inadequate before I’ve had my coffee, ya know? After I drink a cup of their house brew, I’m ready to spread the love to all the beautiful youngins who took over the neighborhood since I left.

Don’t see your favorite on the list? I’m curious, what is it? Cheers!
