P1330843 Thank goodness for the snowy Colorado springs. It makes it seem totally reasonable to start a sweater in February and then finish it in April for a big Easter snow. Totally reasonable.

Pattern & Yarn

This is the Night Groove pattern designed by Isabell Kraemer.

I used the KnitPicks Capretta Superwash Yarn in Moonstone Heather for the body. This yarn is mixture of superwash merino, cashmere, and nylon. So super soft and cozy. The red contrast yarn was in my stash, and I think it’s a combination of merino and silk.

This is a top-down knit worked in the round. It’s definitely one of my favorite methods for putting together a sweater. There are no seams to finish, though this one does give the illusion of seams with the fake purled “seam” up the sides of the body and arms.

The reason I like a top-down is that you can really try it on as you go. For this one, and another that I’m working on, I wasn’t sure how long I wanted the sleeves to be. Finishing the body of the sweater and then trying it on as you work on the sleeves lets you really customize it to your wants. For this one I almost did a 3/4 sleeve but then settled on these sleeves that are *just* long enough without being so long that they get in the way.

The other benefit of the top-down version is that if you mess up length it’s super easy to go back and fix… and I may have had to do that with this one. I finished the whole sweater, tried it on, and realized that the body really needed an extra inch of length in the stockinette section. So while I wasn’t excited to do it, it was no problem to pull out the ribbing, knit that extra inch and then do the ribbing again.

In the end the sweater fits perfectly. It’s super soft and cozy, but thanks to the fingering weight yarn it’s thin enough that I think it’ll make a great 3-season sweater for those snowy April days and those chilly fall evenings around the campfire.

Under the sweater I’m wearing this tunic. It’s perfect over leggings.
