Cranberry Rosemary Sour

This past spring we shared a variety of fizz and sour cocktails. Today we’re back with a wintry version. You can find all of our cocktail recipes here.

If you’re up for a bit of egg on your face in your drink, then I think you’ll love today’s drink. The combination of spicy ginger + tart cranberry + earthy rosemary creates a drink that encapsulates everything I feel as I watch the sun’s low rays move across our hill on a winter day.

The one thing our summer sours and fizzes all had in common was the foam created by adding a raw egg white to the drink. If you’re unsure about raw eggs in your cocktails, rest assured that with the right ingredients and vigorous shaking, that egg white will turn into a nice creamy foam. It’s like a dollop of meringue on the top of your drink.

Of course, you could always try a version of this drink without the egg. In that case, you won’t event need the blender – just put the first few ingredients in a cocktail shaker to blend and chill before adding the ginger beer and cranberry juice.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz rosemary simple syrup (see recipe below)
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1.5-2 oz vodka
  • 1 egg white
  • ginger beer
  • unsweetened cranberry juice

How-to

  • Place the vodka, simple syrup, lime juice, and egg white in a blender. Blend on high for a quick 15-30 seconds. You’ll see a nice foam develop, and you’ll know that  the white is whipped the right amount.
  • Shake the blended ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker.
  • Strain and pour over ice into an old fashion glass, top with a splash of ginger beer & cranberry juice, garnish (could be with a sprig of rosemary, a slice of orange, or a few cranberries) and enjoy!

Rosemary Simple Syrup

  • Place 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water, and a couple sprigs of rosemary in a pot. Bring to a low simmer, and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • Take the syrup off the heat and let steep for 10 minutes.
  • Strain the syrup and let cool before using.

We used the silly cocktail stirrers at our holiday party this year. They were a hit and I want to pick up a few more packs. If you want some, you can find them here.
