Soooo. Just in case you didn’t get my hint yesterday, I’m shouting it from the rooftops today. Use your homemade coffee liqueur to make white Russians.

Click on through for both the basic cocktail and our indulgent Thursday afternoon treat. Because Thursdays are practically weekends.

Basic White Russian

Ok, the basic white Russian couldn’t be any easier. It’s three ingredients that you likely have on hand. And call me crazy, but while most recipes use cream, I prefer the slightly less heavy taste of milk. I’m also crazy about coffee liqueur, so I use equal parts liqueur to vodka. Do what you want.

  • 1.5 oz vodka
  • 1.5 oz coffee liqueur
  • milk (as much as you want, do we really have to measure any of these ingredients?)
  • ice

Put everything into a nice little double old fashioned and abide.

White Russian Milkshake

I’m the biggest BIGGEST fan of milkshakes. I’ll drink one any day of the week, and prefer them homemade. I’m pretty sure that this is one of my best mom-traits. I’ve never been turned down when I ask if anyone wants a shake, and for a few minutes, I’m the best mom in the world.

But, here’s my not-so-little secret, spiked shakes are even better than plain vanilla.

I keep these shakes simple, just blend vanilla ice cream with milk in a blender. I skimp slightly on the milk and only add more as needed to get everything to blend. Then I serve out the shakes and add a shot of coffee liqueur to each glass that’s getting spiked.

Yum.
