It’s Amazon Prime Day, so we’re re-sharing some of our favorite book posts. This list is just what you need to jump start your summer meal planning!
Check it out – my absolute favorite summer cookbooks! These books have been in heavy rotations in my kitchen for the past few years, and they have the smears, oil marks, and sticky spots to prove it. You’ll probably recognize some from past posts.
Jerusalem & Plenty – these are two books by Yotam Ottolenghi (and Sami Tamimi for Jerusalem). I love these books for the intense flavors and fresh ingredients listed in the recipes. From a design perspective, the books are filled with beautiful photography of both the dishes and life in the Middle East. Plenty is a vegetarian cookbook, and I lean on it heavily when my fridge is overflowing with farm share veggies.

Food in Jars & Preserving by the Pint – Two books by about canning by Marisa McClellan, and it all started with her blog, also called Food in Jars. I love these books and her blog because they make preserving food super accessible. The instructions are very clear covering everything from how to sanitize your jars, to adjusting times for altitude (important since I live at 6000ft!). I also like the size of her recipes, particularly the second book, because they aren’t too large. You don’t have to spend too much time in the kitchen, and yet you have just enough of a final product to save for the long winter months and/or to share with friends. And, most importantly, the recipes are delicious!

Rustic Fruit Desserts – The title says it all! Beautiful, fruit-filled desserts organized by season. I’ve baked a few desserts (in our house they double as breakfasts!) from this book, and all have been met with rave reviews.

Paletas – Popsicles! If you have kids or you’re a kid at heart, buy this book. The recipes are so good & made from fresh fruit, what more could you want? Maybe some aguas frescas? You can find it here too. Make sure you get a copy before the temps reach 100F again this August.

Fermented Vegetables – This is a brand new cookbook on my shelves, and I’m already so excited about it. The first half+ of the book is full of different fermentation recipes, and they go well beyond your basic cabbage sauerkraut. The last bit of the book contains recipes for meals and snacks using the ferments, and again this goes beyond sauerkraut with your brats (think sauerkraut quiche!). I thought it was particularly timely to mention since some of you may also have a plethora of veggies at this time of year. If you do, experimenting with fermentation adds both exciting flavors and healthy probiotics to your meals.
Thank you so much for including my books on your list! So glad they’re useful to you!
You’re welcome! And we love that you do what you do – we’ve been big fans for a long time!
