This past Christmas, I had a lot of fun using the boys’ artwork to make gifts. This particular mug was a big hit. Click through to see its magic surprise.

The other side of the mug shouts MORGEN!, which is German for morning or good morning.

As you can see, this isn’t the friendliest mug. We think that the design is perfect for family members that aren’t quite ready to talk when they wake up. You know, the ones who are drinking coffee to suppress their morning monster.

It Morphs!

But here’s the fun part: it’s a morphing mug! The mug is black (you can still see a big of the underlying image and word), but when hot water is added, the mug turns white and you see the image!

Luc’s Art

Luc made the original art using these tempura paint sticks on a small canvas. He said it was a bear that “just ate its prey”. HA!

I used our scanner to copy the image to a digital file. I then open the image in Photoshop, erase the background, and convert it to a PNG. PNGs are great for a project like this, because only the actual image will be uploaded and printed onto the mug.
