As I mentioned in this post, during our Moab visit the swimming pool at our campground was closed. It was a disappointment, BUT our day turned out even better than expected when we were tipped off about this magical swimming hole.
Unlike our long & hot hike to Lower Calf Creek Falls, accessing these swimming holes just required a skip, hop, and jump from the trailhead parking lot!
Getting There
Getting to the swimming hole is as easy as typing Mill Creek North Fork Trailhead into Google.
The parking lot is not very large, which can be frustrating on a hot summer day. When we arrived in the afternoon, the lot was full, but within minutes we saw a few people walking to their cars and were able to score a spot.
You’ll see that there’s a wide trail leaving the parking lot with a number of smaller trails branching off to the left between the main trail and the creek. Wonder around a bit to decide where you’d like to access the creek. Some access points are steeper than others, so take your time and find a spot that you feel comfortable navigating. On the map above, the swimming holes that we visited are all in the creek between the parking lot and the waterfall.
Mill Creek North Fork Swimming Holes
There are a number of different swimming holes. Some bigger and deeper than others. A handful of them are connected by awesome rock “slides” between them. So many good hang out zones that you can’t pick just one. We started in one area, slowly worked our way upstream until we were in the big pool under the waterfall, and then we worked our way back down again.
What to bring?
Since accessing these swimming holes are so easy, you really don’t have to do much prep.
We wore our swimsuits, and brought towels, sunscreen, snacks, drinks, and hats. Your really don’t need much more than that!
