Knitting literally and figuratively takes up a lot of room in my life. You can find previous knitting posts here.
At the beginning of the year, I encouraged our readers to “make with me“. In the Make with Me series, I was sharing the projects that I was working on and/or finished in near-real time. That came to a sudden halt in March. Then, I started working on a few secret projects that really put a cramp in my ability to share. Today’s post is about one of those projects.
I’m excited to announce that I’ve finally put together a self-published knitting pattern!
Did you know that wool and copper are the traditional gifts for a seven-year anniversary? All of the knitters get excited; this is finally the anniversary when you can ask for what you really want : a trip to the yarn store. When I found that out, I was excited to make Calder some sort of wooly gift for our anniversary. And when I realized that a dedicated seven-year anniversary hat pattern doesn’t exist, I thought that it would be fun to create one.
The pattern is called Seven Year Stitch; yes, it’s a good ole play on seven-year itch.
Using sevens as the theme, this hat contains seven groups of sevens:
- 7 trees
- 7 pairs of branches on each tree
- 7 rows for the tree trunks
- 7 cables
- 7*2 rows for the brim
- 7 stitches in the final round
- 7 mm of copper sewn into the crown!
That last little surprise is like the icing on the cake. Sewn into the inner crown of the hat is a little length of copper tubing that’s 7 mm long! Of course, you could add something else copper (7 copper rings?), or even just make the hat from copper-colored yarn.
Click here for the pattern’s Ravelry Page.
The pattern price is $5.oo. You can purchase it without a Ravelry account (buy now). When you purchase it, you’ll receive a downloadable PDF file that includes both full written and charted instructions. And of course, if you have any questions, I’m always more than happy to help!
Make on. xo
