Today we’re sharing the recipe for a super simple evening face oil.
This potion is much simpler than our winter face oil. As explained in that post, our winter face oil calls for a blend of different carrier and essential oils, each with their own beneficial properties from firming the skin to lightening aging spots.
With only three ingredients, today’s potion is much easier to make, but that doesn’t detract from its usefulness and indulgent properties. This oil smells amazing, and it’s is something that I like to use in the evenings because it does double duty: removes my makeup and moisturizes““““““““““` before bed.
Coconut + Rose Oil
As I mentioned, this recipe contains just three simple ingredients:
- 1/4 cup coconut oil : I’m using unrefined solid coconut oil. It will have a strong coconut smell that can overpower the rose, but I don’t mind because you’re still getting the good properties from the rose petals and oil, even if you can smell them. If you’d prefer less of a coconut smell and more rose, you could definitely substitute a refined coconut oil.
- 1 TBSP ground rose petals : you’ll want dried organic rose petals for this potion. The petals will add both a slight fragrance to the potion and possibly some exfoliation properties. I ground my petals but rubbing them between my fingers and a mesh sieve. You could also use a mortar and pestle or possibly a very clean coffee grinder. You’ll want the ground petals to be fairly fine.
- 12+ drops rose otto essential oil : this essential oil is extremely expensive. I’ve never splurged on buying it pure (maybe one day!), instead I buy the oil diluted in jojoba oil. It still has a beautiful rose smell, but definitely isn’t as powerful as the pure oil.
Blend all three ingredients together and adjust the recipe to your tastes. If you want more essential oil, go for it! I think lavender or geranium essential oils would be great additions.
How to use?
Before I made this oil, I was just using straight up coconut oil as a make-up remover and moisturizer at night. I’d put some coconut oil on a cotton ball or reusable make-up remover pad, wipe all over my face to remove my make-up, and then finish with a thin layer of the oil for moisture.
I do the exact same thing with this blend. Just rub it all over my face, wipe off my make-up, and then add a touch more if needed for moisture. So simple, but it really feels good at the end of the day, especially during our dry Colorado winters.
The combination of coconut oil, ground rose petals, and rose otto essential oil is a brilliant choice. The natural properties of each ingredient must make this oil not only effective but also a sensory delight.
