Honey is our ingredient of the season. You can find our archive of honey posts here.
You’ve likely heard us mention our brother’s hives before. He keeps them on the roof of the garage at the old farm where we grew up. The honey that comes from the hives has been dubbed Garage Top Honey, and it has supplied most of our honey needs for this season’s posts. Thanks, Sven!
Our brother is a man of few words. Thus, the most concise interview ever.
Why did you get into beekeeping? I really like honey. And I thought I could save money by keeping bees.
How’s that working out for you? I might be breaking even.
What are the basic tools that a person needs to get started? A complete hive & bees.
Do you need the suit? Ehhh….
What would you tell any aspiring beekeeper? Learn how to build your own bee boxes. It’ll save you a lot of money.
Do you build your own? No.
What resources do you recommend? The internet. No one agrees. So do what’s best for your circumstances. Learn by trial and error.
Is there anything else that you want to learn about beekeeping? I want to start learning about how to use more of the materials produced by the bees, like wax, propolis, royal jelly, etc.
