Bali! Before heading to Bali, I groaned at the thought of it.  I had only ever heard Bali mentioned during prize puzzles on Wheel Of Fortune and it was always preceded by ‘an all inclusive 9-day getaway!’ blah, blah, blah. I imagined it to look like one huge Sandals resort. Ick. Not my kind of traveling (I apologize if it’s yours!) I thought, no way, not going to Bali, any other Indonesian island, yes, Bali, nope! Holy crap I was wrong. Bali is amazing.  There are a couple touristy beaches on the southern side of the island, but beyond that Bali is an amazing, lush, green gem of an island.  More on that in another post, but for now here’s a few new Seasoned Views for your April desktops and backgrounds. Usually we share images that Kate and I took over the past week, but we’re taking it wayyyy back this month and sharing photos of where I was exactly four years ago. Welcome to time traveling with the Seasoned sisters.

Jamaica – Seasoned View: Vol. 23

IT’S MARCH! WTF. If you remember, that’s exactly how I started the February Seasoned View.  I can’t help but feel like this year is slipping through my fingers. I think I’m bopping around so much that I haven’t had a chance to sit still and organize my thoughts, but hey, who needs a moment of calm?  This week I’m hosting Blacka, who I refer to as my Jamaican dad, but he’s more like a best friend.

Blacka lives next door to the villa where I studied abroad in Jamaica in 2009.  I loved talking with him and his family so much that I decided to go back to Jamaica alone in 2010 and stay with them for two months.  Those were some of the most relaxing months of my life.  I would wake up early because of the heat at which point I’d go lay near the beach, catch a breeze, and take another nap. After nap time, I’d hit the street (as they say in Jamaica) take tons of photos, eat jerk fish, drink Red Stripe and stroll on back home. I learned how to make rice and peas, I made an “office” on the porch of an unused villa, and I learned how to wash my clothes by hand.  I met up with farmers and locals that I had met the year before and generally treated every day as a mini photo adventure. I shot soccer tournaments, elementary school fashion shows, and dozens of different professions.  I waded out into five feet of water in the ocean (with my camera held over my head) in order to hop aboard a tiny fishing boat, slipped on my ass all the way down a muddy mountain to teacher ginger farmers about pesticides, and slept in half finished houses with acquaintances just to get a better feel for the life of a Jamaican.  I even worked on a book concept, but like most of my projects, it was never actually completed. Over the course of two summers, I fell in love with Caribbean culture and island life. I made countless friends, a handful of which I still keep in touch with. I cannot believe that I’m hosting Blacka in my home.  I always hoped the day would come, but I never knew it could be a reality. It just goes to show you the potential of talking to strangers. I thought it could be fun to share some Jam Rock photos here today in honor of the one trip that made me realize I could feel completely at home anywhere on earth.  What a magical moment that was.

Excuse the quality of these shots – they were taken over five years ago, they’re unedited and honestly, they make me cringe, but they’re telling of my time so I’ll share them 🙂live seasoned seasoned view march jamaica3Paper makers in eastern Jamaica.live seasoned seasoned view march jamaica9 Ginger farmers learning about pesticides – most thought that bad spirits were the reason for the decline of their crops. Happy New Year everyone!  We have a nice mix of sunny and frosty for your January edition of Seasoned View. All of these images were taken my Katie or myself in Colorado over the past two weeks.  As you can see, we went on our fair share of wintery hikes and we’re suggesting you do the same- you won’t regret it.  Bundle up and get out there!

Oi. It’s dark outside and it’s 5p.m. even though this happens every year, there’s no way I can get used to it. To offset the outside, I’ve been sprinkling candles about and making my living room a bit more cozy for fall.  In Nepal, most of the landscape was lush and green, but during the Annapurna Circuit trek, there were two days that looked distinctly like autumn.  Here are some of the snapshots I took. Enjoy! Screen Shot 2015-11-01 at 6.23.17 PM

Hello from our mid-fall stay-cation! I didn’t plan to take the week off, but I’ve been spending every free moment during naptime and evenings work on projects rather than blogging. Maybe it’s the change in weather, as we had a fantastic string of foggy and rainy days lately (a nice break from the 80s and harsh sun that was most of September). It really put me in the mood to stay inside and curl up with a good project.

This month’s photos are all pictures that I took this week while hiking our mountain with Alex and Luc, and I think they provide a picture perfect snapshot of this beautiful fall weather.

I’m loving the raindrops image. I’m starting to think that it would make a great photo for a bathroom, especially if mounted this way.

Now I’m going to get back to my pumpkin baking, decorating for halloween, and finally finishing this sweater (with a big update post to come!). While I’m doing all of that, I have Ryan Adam’s cover of Taylor Swift’s 1989. It’s so good! When this NPR review mentioned that he sounded like Bruce, I was sold (and Calder laughed at how easy it is to get me to buy an album).

Unless Sarah checks in from the trail, we’ll see you back here on Monday with some fresh posts. Can’t wait!

Happy Monday! Hopefully you had a nice labor day weekend. Kate spent her holiday at the beach with the family doing all kinds of summer stuff.  I spent it alone in Nepal and while there were no grills and swimming pools, I still managed to have a nice time 🙂  Enjoy this September’s Seasoned View.  You can download any or all of these images to use as  backgrounds and screensavers for your computer, phone or tablet.  Simply click on the link below each photo then right click on the photo and save it to your device.

Happy Monday! If you live in the States, I hope you had a relaxing holiday weekend and your pups survived the fireworks shows.  Did you happen to catch the Women’s World Cup game yesterday?!  It was amazing! I remember watching the U.S.A. win against China in 1999.  The game was broadcasting right after one of my soccer games and one of the coaches actually brought a bulky T.V. and an antenna so the team could sit and watch the World Cup game.  It was so sunny and the glare off the bubble screen was so bad that we were all practically peeing our pants with anticipation during the shootout.  I have no idea how my team did that day or even that season, but watching the U.S.A. team defeat China, with my teammates by my side, is certainly a memory I’ll never forget.  I’m never one to cheer too loudly or buy team jerseys, but looking back, I do have a lot of memories tied to various sports games.  Do you remember where you were during any specific tournaments or Super Bowl games?  What stands out in your mind about the celebrations?  These little memory exercises are a good reminder that I should gather my friends around more often even if I’m not that invested in one team or another.  Sometimes you need a specific event to tie your memories down so they’re not forgotten.  Do you find this is the case for you as well? Another more obvious way that I record memories is through photography.  Below are some recent nature shots for our July Seasoned View.  If you’re down with a dark and moody desktop, download Katie’s spectacular shot of a summer storm; it’s my favorite of the bunch!  You can upload one or all of these photos to use as your desktop background or as phone and tablet wallpapers.  Simply click on the download link below each photo and save the image.  Enjoy!

Merry Monday to everyone 🙂  Hope your weekend was whatever you wanted it to be.  Mine was the perfect mix of work, rest and play.  I saw Mad Max last night in theaters and I was blown away! So good; nonstop action, but not the repetitive kind.  My week is shaping up the same way 😉 Have a good one!
