Rosemary Room Spray

Rosemary is our ingredient of the season. Today we’re stepping out of the kitchen and using rosemary oil to create a room spray that will leave your whole house smelling fantastic!  If you follow this link, you’ll see some of our other favorite uses for essential oils.

Hey readers, it’s been a fun week around here, hasn’t it? Did you check out Sarah’s profile of Connie Zamorano Tuesday afternoon? Now I’m obsessed with getting one of those cicada prints on my wall!

If the bugs left you squirming in your seat, you can channel that energy into this super simple project: homemade rosemary, mint and eucalyptus room spray. Have you tried store bought room sprays? I have a few, and I have to admit that I love them at first, but find that they can be a bit overpowering in their staying power and/or they just smell chemically over time. I don’t have either problem when I make my own. As for complexity, it’s going to take you longer to read this post than it will to mix up your spray.

I think you’ll find the combination of peppermint, eucalyptus, and rosemary oils to be both refreshing and energizing. Of course there are many uses for this spray, but a few of my favorites are: 1. after cleaning the morning poopy diaper, 2. spraying it into the shower right before I jump in (it’s like a spa), and 3. as the icing on my spring cleaning cake. Our cleaning is in overdrive this year since we’re moving. After we finish cleaning an area of the house, I use this spray to mask any lingering cleaning smells. For us that’s usually the smell of vinegar, but today we had the carpets professionally cleaned and this spray was the perfect antidote to that not-so-awesome wet carpet smell. Oh, and the energizing lift that this spray provides helps to keep me moving when the last thing I want to do is wash another window.

I found this recipe and the inspiration for this project on the Aura Cacia website, modifying it ever so slightly. Quick side note, if you follow Aura Cacia on Facebook you’ll get links to projects like this in your feed!

Supplies

Pour everything into the bottle, give it a good shake, and spray away! You will have to shake it before every use. Really, it’s that simple!

A few notes:

  • If you don’t have the alcohol, you can use water, but the aroma won’t linger as long.
  • Of course, you can use any combination of oils, and increase or decrease the number of drops depending upon how intense you want the scent to be

This is just one way we use essential oils in our home, and we’re excited to share more uses in future posts. Do you have a supply of oils in your house? What are your favorites? How do you use them?

    • Hi Hazir,

If you’re in the US, many food cooperatives, health food stores, and herbal apothecaries sell individual bottles like these. There are also quite a few online sites that will sell the bottles (either individually or in bulk). Here’s a link to a site that will sell the blue bottles individually. I hope that helps, but if you have any more questions, please let us know. Best of luck!
