I feel like these homemade lotion bars should be rose scented to keep with this week’s unintentional theme.

Does your skin resemble dry, cracked, dusty earth? Mine does.  It’s the worst, especially in the winter.  Poor, poor me.  No, but really, my entire body has dandruff and I know you probably didn’t want to hear that, but I said it.  It is disgusting and it plagues me.  Dry skin is the monkey on my back.  You might think I’m being a little dramatic, but applying lotion six times a day (REALLY) is no joke!  This is my life. Welcome. Instead of spending a quarter (maybe I’m being a little dramatic here) of my annual income on lotion, I mixed up a double batch of this homemade version and called it a day well spent.  This easy lotion bar concoction only requires three ingredients! Yeah Kate, we know, your no-heat rosehip jam only has two. Congratulations.  No, congrats to YOU after you read through this lotion bar recipe and immediately order the supplies. I applaud you.  Happy moisturized skin to you my friend.

I will admit that I had to order most of these supplies before making the lotion bars.  I didn’t have a silicon mold (although I could have used a muffin tin with liners), cocoa butter or beeswax.  Can we take a second to read the silicon mold description? Jello shot mold? HOW?! Anyway, I ordered those exact ingredients from Amazon for a grand total of $39.17, which sounded like a lot to me.  Forty bucks for some bath and body supplies? That’s very unlike me, but I’ve since made 20+ bars with these same supplies and I still have lots of beeswax and cocoa butter left.  I obviously still have the pan too and did I mention you can use it for jello shots individual cheesecakes?!

That means if I don’t make another lotion bar for as long as I live, these bars only cost $2 a piece.  I’ve used the same bar all day, errrday since December 21st and I still have at least a quarter of it left, never mind the fact that I know exactly when these lotion bars came into transformed my life.* Hear what I’m sayin’? It’s worth it.**  Don’t you want to have a two-year stock pile of lotion bars?! Ok, well, me either that’s why I gave most of them away as gifts!  I simply wrapped them in wax paper and sealed them with twine or washi tape.  I would prefer to give them in these tins, but I don’t have everything together all the time. You know this.  I like the tin because these bars have the possibility of melting if they’re kept in a hot car or sat on like an egg.. whoops! I keep mine in a plastic bag and for some reason that bums me out. So give these bars in tins and your friends are more likely to keep you.

As you can see, I experimented with different biodegradable materials.  I would tell you more, but to be honest, I’m still in the testing phase. Yep, we test things before we tell you to do them, we’re responsible like that.  If you are someone who likes an oily lotion that is easily absorbed or if you use coconut oil or argon oil in place of store bought lotions then this is a great alternative.  Be sure to rub the homemade lotion bar between your hands for a few seconds to heat up the oils. Apply the lotion by rubbing the bar directly onto dry areas or by rubbing it onto your hands and then massaging it into your skin.  I usually do the latter. I like giving myself a mini massage each time I apply.  Feel free to add whatever essential oil you have or leave it out completely.  They smell SO good either way. Pinky promise. A really smooth and moisturized pinky promise. 

*If you know me, you know I love traveling with only a carryon suitcase when I fly.  These lotion bars are 4 solid ounces. What’s that? Yes, yes I did find a lotion loophole to the 3 liquid ounces or less rule.
